Education and early years:

Lynnette Owens, pianist Lynnette Owens, pianist Lynnette Owens with the Hummingbirds Lynnette Owens as Marion in The Music Man

Lynnette received her Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance when she was 22 years old, but her music education began when she started taking piano lessons at the young age of five. She gave a solo piano recital when she was 12 years old playing from memory advanced piano songs such as Debussy's Clair de lune, Kachaturian's Toccata and Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee. She continued taking piano lessons even competing in Rick's College's concerto competition even though her major was Voice Performance until she graduated from there with her Associates Degree. She continues to improve her piano skills playing at weddings, funerals, parties of all sorts and accompanying and adds to her piano repertoire learning Liszt's notoriously difficult La Campanella and Un Sospiro.

When she started singing:

Lynnette was born a singer and did her first solo when she was just four years old. She joined the church choir when she was only eight singing in the alto section because her note reading skills from starting piano at such a young age gave her the ability to read and stay on the notes. In 6th grade she joined a small group of very talented young women called the Hummingbirds and for two years sang frequent performances throughout her county. She sang in her school choirs often soloing, started singing lessons when she was 15 and performed leading roles in her high school's musicals.

She attended college on both academic and music scholarships. At her first college audition when she was only 18 years old, she was immediately given the leading role of Gilda in Verdi's Rigoletto and went on to sing leading roles at BYU of Dorine in Mechem's Tartuffe and Rosina in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia.

In addition, she began playing the violin in 6th grade and went on to play for nine years as an orchestral violinist filling the position of concert mistress in her school orchestras in 8th, 9th, 11th and 12th grades. She played in the Rick's College orchestra for two years.

After receiving her B.M. in Voice Performance, Lynnette went on to have a professional classical singing career that included being a soloist in NYC's Carnegie Hall with the New England Symphony and a 300-voice chorus in Mozart's Requiem and Vesperae solennes de confessore. She has thrilled audiences and critics alike with her operatic performances which included roles such as Madama Butterfly in Puccini's Madama Butterfly, Minnie in Puccini's La Fanciulla del West, Mimi in Puccini's La Bohème, and Tosca in Puccini's Tosca amongst numerous others. She has been a soloist with the Lyrical Opera Theater, Rome Festival Opera, Utah Symphony & Opera, Amici Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Utah Festival Opera, Sarasota Opera, Bleeker Street Opera in NYC, MidAmerica Productions, the American West Symphony and the Da Camera Choir and Symphony of Neuchâtel, Switzerland.
