Technique is everything! A solid technique can enable you to sing longer and stronger in any style you choose to sing in be it musical theater, contemporary, jazz, hard rock or classical while maintaining healthy vocal cords. It is essential that singers learn to sing from a singer that has tested and proven her technique to the maximum capacity. That is what Lynnette brings to you as a teacher. The technique she teaches is called BEL CANTO and was developed in the country of Italy in order to support the difficult singing that opera demands. Lynnette both teaches and demonstrates the technique for her students then helps them use it in whatever style they choose to sing in.
Instruction time will include preparing students for performances even if they aren't interested in becoming performers. It will include acting, stage technique, how to deal with stage fright and how to use of equipment such as music playing devices, speaker systems and microphones.
There are 4 lessons per month - 3 private lessons, typically for 30 minutes although students can choose to have hour long lessons, and a MASTER CLASS group lesson at the end of each month to showcase the work that has been done in the private lessons and expand a student's education by learning from everyone else!
After receiving her B.M. in Voice Performance, Lynnette went on to have a professional classical singing career that included being a soloist in NYC's Carnegie Hall with the New England Symphony and a 300-voice chorus in Mozart's Requiem and Vesperae solennes de confessore. She has thrilled audiences and critics alike with her operatic performances which included roles such as Madama Butterfly in Puccini's Madama Butterfly, Minnie in Puccini's La Fanciulla del West, Mimi in Puccini's La Bohème, and Tosca in Puccini's Tosca amongst numerous others. She has been a soloist with the Lyrical Opera Theater, Rome Festival Opera, Utah Symphony & Opera, Amici Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Utah Festival Opera, Sarasota Opera, Bleeker Street Opera in NYC, MidAmerica Productions, the American West Symphony and the Da Camera Choir and Symphony of Neuchâtel, Switzerland.
No. Opera singing is simply a style of singing. Opera singing is VERY difficult so a singer must have a highly skilled singing technique in order to sing it. It is that technique that is taught and then simply applied to any style of singing.
Master Class is a group lesson at the end of each month to showcase the work that has been done in the private lessons and expand a student's education by learning from everyone else! It is typically on a Tuesday from 5:00 - 7:00pm. Students are expected to perform what they've been working on during the previous lessons of the month. Students can attend the entire Master Class or just show up during that period of time and stay as long as they can. Parents, friends and family members are welcome to come and support their students. Students are expected not only to perform but to watch, learn and comment on other students' performances so they are an active participant and learning music in a much broader fashion.
Master Class also helps those with performing aspirations to get much more performance experience preparing them for "real world" performances.
Lynnette recommends daily practice, but everyone's voice is a little different. For some people, 30 minutes per day is all they can do. Other's can do longer but need a day of rest in between. Every singer needs to learn how to practice without singing or only slightly singing to make up for the fact that vocal cords can only take so much usage before they become damaged.

Lynnette has been playing the piano for 49 years and has taught piano lessons for 39 years. She received a Bachelor of Music when she was 22 years old which included university level piano lessons. She started taking piano lessons at the young age of five. She gave a solo piano recital when she was 12 years old playing from memory advanced piano songs such as Debussy's Clair de lune, Kachaturian's Toccata and Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee. She continued taking piano lessons until she received her Associates Degree even competing in her college's concerto competition against piano majors. She continues to improve her piano skills and not only plays at weddings, funerals, parties of all sorts, as well as accompanying but adds to her piano repertoire learning Liszt's notoriously difficult La Campanella and Un Sospiro.
Students will learn a range of styles from the classics to jazz to contemporary. Lynnette teaches note reading from the beginning using piano course books that have songs students recognize and enjoy so they will tend to practice more. She teaches music theory and piano technique within the songs the student is learning so there is not only a practical application but also a more enjoyable way to learn both.
Yes. You need to have a piano. A good, well-tuned accoustic piano is best, but a weighted-keys, full size (88 keys), digital piano can suffice especially for beginners.
